It’s time to put a price on carbon pollution, one of the most effective ways to address climate change. Thankfully, support for a price on carbon pollution is accelerating in Congress. Senators Whitehouse and Schatz introduced the Save Our Future Act, a carbon pricing bill, in June. HR 2307, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, now has 85 co-sponsors. Rep. Kahele co-sponsored this bill in July.

There are more - America’s Clean Future Fund Act, Climate Action Rebate Act, and Market Choice Act.

Budget Reconciliation

Another approach that result in a carbon price this year is its inclusion in the Budge Reconciliation package. Leaders have suggested their support for this. This is notable since there have been challenges to the President’s clean electricity plan by Sen. Manchin, as detailed in this NYT report.

The U.S. must do more to address climate change, and it can do this by enacting a carbon pricing policy, one that will introduce powerful market incentives to shift away from fossil fuels while protecting the vulnerable and our businesses from border tariffs now being raised in critical markets (markets with their carbon pricing.)

A price on carbon will help put the fire out.
